The
Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Ms. Anahit Manasyan, addressed
the 2024 Annual Report on the activities of the Human Rights Defender of the
Republic of Armenia, the state of protection of human rights and freedoms and
the The Annual report on the activities of the Defender of the Republic of
Armenia as a National Preventive Mechanism for 2024 during the broadcast of
“Lurer” (News).
The
Defender’s annual report summarizes:
▪️ the
results of the activities of the Human Rights Defender’s Office of the Republic
of Armenia during the previous year,
▪️ existing
practical and legislative problems in certain areas,
▪️ the
Defender's recommendations aimed at resolving them.
In
particular, within the framework of the 2024 annual report, the issues of
ensuring socio-economic rights, protection of rights in the field of criminal
justice, freedom of peaceful assembly, protection of human rights in the armed
forces, ensuring the rights of the children and their best interests,
protection of the rights of persons with disabilities, protection of the rights
of older people, protection of the rights of persons forcibly displaced from
Nagorno-Karabakh, rights of national minorities, equality and prohibition of
discrimination, as well as a number of systemic issues were analyzed.
The
annual report of the National Preventive Mechanism examined in detail
▪️ the
rights of persons with mental health problems in psychiatric institutions,
▪️ the
rights of persons deprived of their liberty in the penitentiary institutions
under the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia, and the detention
facilities of the police units under the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the
Republic of Armenia
The
report analyses the conditions of temporary detention cells for persons
deprived of their liberty in courts, as well as the comfort of vehicles for
their transportation and the issues related to ensuring sufficient conditions
during transportation, for the resolution of which suggestions were submitted.
