During 2023, the Human Rights Defender conducted a study
of the issues of women's involvement in the patrol service, domestic
legislation and international best practices in the field, and based on the
results of the latter, proposals for changes in legal regulations were
presented.
As a result of the Defender's research, it was found that
over the past 3 years, more than 60% of women who expressed a desire to be
included in the patrol service did not meet the weight and height standards for
admission.
As a result of the study and the proposals presented
within its framework, the standards were changed.
The study was carried out within the framework of the
"Promotion of Gender Equality in the Law Enforcement System of
Armenia" program funded by the government of the United Kingdom. The Human
Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan and John Gallagher, Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to
the Republic of Armenia, address the mentioned questions.
