“The new National Assembly
closely cooperates with the Human Rights Defender, particularly I would like to
emphasize the proposals in the form of draft legislative acts, which we receive
from the Human Rights Defender, as well as the fact that, prior to their
adoption, laws are subject to relevant expertise by the Defender.
As an example, this year for
the first time the Parliament accepted a large package of penitentiary law
reform, which was developed by the Office of Human Rights Defender and it was
based on the results of its activities.
Following this package, there
are already visible positive changes, which introduced the importance of an individual
approach to a person deprived of liberty, etc.
As the President of the
Parliament, I attach great importance to the public awareness-raising campaigns
on various issues organized by the Human Rights Defender, which significantly
contributes to more complete implementation of the laws.
I especially attach
importance to those that relate to women’s rights protection, inclusive
education, children’s rights, etc.
Proper public awareness
campaigns allow breaking stereotypes and exclude misconceptions.
I am confident that our
institutions' future cooperation will be fruitful.”
