This video showcases the real life
of a young woman whose husband and the members of his extended family regularly
abused her.
The young woman's life would have taken a
completely different turn if one of her relatives had not made an alarming-call
to the Human Rights Defender of Armenia hotline.
This woman’s story serves as an example on how
a person’s life can completely turn upside down simply because the state bodies,
instead of taking measures to combat the violence, behaved unprofessionally and
irresponsibly, acted with no cohesion and in gross violation of the law.
Her personal story demonstrates how destructive
domestic violence can be in shaping a person’s destiny.
We must have strong families, as it is the
foundation of our state. But our families
cannot be strong and peaceful unless we truly take measures to combat violence.
And the state must serve as the main body to fight against this vicious
phenomenon.
Violence against a woman, child, parent, or any
other member of the family cannot be tolerated; it is a gross violation of
human rights.
Violence disrupts a person’s dignity and their mental integrity;
it deprives our children of a healthy and carefree childhood.
We
are in need of a society that rejects violence. Only in that case will our
society be healthy, self-sufficient, and truly happy.
This video was produced in cooperation with our international
partners last year before the war, however, its publication was postponed.
