Human rights and
democracy are the guarantees of the security of the country.
The one who disassociates
human rights from security, is eventually deprived of security as well.
The more human rights and
democracy are protected, the stronger the security, and vice versa: The weaker
human rights and democracy are protected, weaker is the system of security of
the country.
This principles approach
is more vital for us now than ever.
We will become the
victims of an unfair politico-military process, if human rights, the rights of
the border residents of Armenia, and their specific security issues are not
raised.
This approach will only
strengthen us in the situation that was created in the post-war period.
The Office of the Human
Rights Defender presents an awareness-raising video on the important role of
democratic oversight of the security sector, prepared within the framework of
cooperation with the OSCE.
The purpose of the video
is to demonstarte how the bodies of the security sector in our country are
supervised: Armed Forces and Ministry of Defense, NSS, Police, Ministry of
Emergency Situations, and law enforcement bodies. The video also demonstrates
the importance of external supervision for their efficient and transparent
work; the Human Rights Defender of Armenia has a prominent role in this
supervision process.
