“Usually,
when society talks about equality, the most targeted aspect is the fact that it
is aimed at providing privileges to certain groups. Gender equality, like any
other area of equality, does not imply providing privileges to anyone, but
rather guarantees equal opportunities.”
The
Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, spoke
with Ms. Tatevik Matinyan, President of "Institute of Liberal
Politics", about gender equality, challenges in the field of women's
rights, and her experience in a podcast.
“In
our environment, there are predetermined roles for women and men, which, in our
opinion, should never be violated. These are stereotypical approaches that
generally apply to almost all areas of gender equality. Equal participation of
women and men in all areas is very important,” said Ms. Anahit Manasyan.
The
Defender also addressed the gender-based targeting of women: "Moreover,
women are very often targeted on grounds that men would never be targeted on.
The best way to combat the phenomenon is for each of us to counteract it.
