At the invitation of the CoE, the Human Rights
Defender of Armenia Arman Tatoyan joined the international awareness-raising campaign for
the abolition of the death penalty as an eminent European human rights
personality.
Participants
in the campaign also include Marija Pejčinović, Secretary General of the CoE,
Linos-Alexandre Sicilianos, President of the European Court of Human Rights,
Dunja Mijatovic, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, Christos
Giakoumopoulos, Director General of the Council of Europe's Directorate General
for Human Rights and Rule of Law, Michelle Bachelet, UN High Commissioner for
Human Rights, etc.
In his
message Arman Tatoyan emphasizes that strong societies never murder but rather
help by re-socializing and restoring justice.
Since
2007, October 10 is marked as the World Day Against the Death Penalty.
