The
Human Rights Defender Arman Tatoyan delivered a message regarding the World
Mental Health Day. The message particularly states:
“October 10 is the World Mental Health Day.
This day
provides an opportunity to raise awareness on people with mental health issues
and show that they are full-fledged members of our society.
This
year, the World Health Organization concentrated its awareness-raising
activities on suicide prevention.
The
mental health field is sensitive. It relates to people who are not always able
to raise issues they face, cases of negligence or their rights violations.
They often
find themselves in social isolation and face stigma. From this perspective, it
is very important to raise awareness on the mental health.
It is
our obligation to take care of them, understand and help them to live a full
life.
Unfortunately,
issues in the field of mental health are of systemic of nature.
There is
no unified policy in the area of mental health, the field lacks proper
oversight mechanisms. Moreover, there is lack or malfunctioning of
community-based services and unacceptable conditions in psychiatric
establishments, etc.
The work
of professionals in the field of mental health is not properly appreciated.
Low
level of working conditions and social guarantees of medical staff and their
insufficient number directly affects a person’s mental health condition and the
quality of the services provided.
One of
the priorities of mental health protection should be the establishment and
development of a system of care and social services as an alternative to psychiatric
services.
The
challenges can be faced only with love and attention.
