Mr. Hayk Khachatryan, the Head of the
Human Rights Defender’s Gegharkunik Regional Office, and Ms. Hasmik Hakobyan,
Armenia Country Director of the American Bar Association Rule of Law Initiative
(ABA ROLI) had a meeting with students of the European University’s Vanadzor
branch and the representatives of NGOs.
"Active
involvement of women and people with disabilities in socio-economic life and
decision-making processes of the country derives from the interests of the
society," stated Hayk Khachatryan, the Head of Gegharkunik Regional
Office, during the opening remarks, stressing the importance of supporting
women's economic development.
During
the meetings organized within the framework of “Promoting Human Rights
Protection in Armenia for All” project funded by the United States Agency for
International Development (USAID), citizens living in the regions,
representatives of NGOs, as well as state and local self-government bodies are
given the opportunity to raise their concerns and get solutions with the
Defender’s support.
Hayk
Khachatryan also presented a number of issues related to domestic violence,
which are also included in the Annual Report of the Human Rights Defender.
Other
issues of concern to citizens have also been discussed during the meeting.
