Yesterday, a video was disseminated on the
internet, where the Director of the Republican Pedagogical-Psychological Center
Armine Davtyan had made statements during a professional discussion showing
cases of violence against children. Moreover, the Director, in essence, calls teachers
to follow her example of committing
violence against children.
The Human Rights Defender deems
any type of violence against children unacceptable. Every child should be
protected against any physical, mental or any type of violence, abuse, as well
as any action or omission of pedagogue or other worker’s and students that
violates the rights of the child or infriges child’s honor and dignity. Any
similar type of punishment against a child is also unacceptable. These
fundamental rights are to be enjoyed by children studying at educational
institutions. According to RA legislation, these actions are prohibited and
entails liability.
The RA Human Rights Defender take into consideration the statement of the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports that the Ministry
“would request explanations from Ms. Davtyan, upon receipt of which measures shall
be undertaken pursuant to explanations and its discussion.”
The RA Human Rights Defender would keep
this issue in his spotlight and calls everyone to refrain from any expressions
or actions violating the rights of the child that are not in the best interest
of the child.
