On
January 29 and 30, on the instructions of the Human Rights Defender of the
Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, representatives of the Human Rights
Defender’s Office conducted visits to the “Armavir” and “Goris” Penitentiary
Institutions of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia.
Within
the framework of the visits, private interviews were held with persons deprived
of liberty. The state of ensuring their rights (including the right to health
care), the necessary documentation, and conditions of detention were examined.
Issues
raised by persons deprived of liberty were discussed with the administrations
of the penitentiary institutions.
The
results will be summarized and necessary clarifications regarding the
identified problems will be requested from the competent authorities.
Issues
related to the rights of persons deprived of their liberty are under the direct
attention of the Human Rights Defender. Visits to penitentiary institutions by
Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan and the Human Rights Defender’s
Office are ongoing.
