On
January 16, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit
Manasyan, visited the women’s battalion of the N military unit of the Ministry
of Defense.
Within
the framework of the visit, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, accompanied by the
representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office and the chief of the
general staff, deputy commander of the military unit Ms. Armine Grigoryan,
toured the unit’s premises, reviewed the social and living conditions and the
peculiarities of the organization of service, and examined the current state of
ensuring the rights of female servicemen.
From
the perspective of ensuring the protection of the rights of female servicemen
and the provision of dignified and appropriate service conditions, the Human
Rights Defender positively assesses the improvement of the unit’s building
facilities.
Within
the framework of the visit, the Human Rights Defender held meetings and
conducted confidential interviews with the female servicemen of the battalion,
during which they presented aspects of their service routine and a number of
rights-related issues were discussed.
The
Defender emphasized that issues related to ensuring the rights of female
servicemen, preventing discrimination and ill-treatment, and overcoming
societal stereotypes, as well as other issues related to the field are under
her direct attention.
