On
November 28, under the leadership of Human Rights Defender of the Republic of
Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, members
of the Public Council on Children’s Rights Protection adjunct to the Human
Rights Defender and the Working Group, as well as a number of children and
young people from different settlements, met with the Prime Minister of the
Republic of Armenia H.E. Mr. Nikol Pashinyan at the Government of the Republic
of Armenia.
The
purpose was to create a direct and effective dialogue platform, where children
and young people will be able to personally voice urgent issues related to the
protection of rights, propose solutions and receive answers directly from the
Prime Minister of the Republic.
The
participants presented to the Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia a
number of issues related to both systemic and specific problems. These related
to children’s safety, improvement of the educational environment, prevention of
violence, accessibility of healthcare services, accessibility of the
environment, employment of persons with disabilities, involvement of children
in decision-making processes, youth employment in communities, and several
other areas.
The
meeting was conducted in a Q&A format, which allowed children to voice the
problems they face and propose solutions for them.
The
event is another step towards making the voice of children more audible and
influential in state decision-making processes —one of the key objectives of
the Public Council on Children’s Rights Protection adjunct to the Human Rights
Defender of the Republic of Armenia.
