The
Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan, strongly
condemns the tragic incident that occurred on the night of September 23 in the
Merdzavan settlement, as a result of which the Head of the Parakar enlarged
community, Mr. Valodya Grigoryan, and police officer Mr. Karen Abrahamyan were
killed.
Such
serious crimes undermine public security and endanger the guarantees of the
rule of law. It is necessary to ensure a prompt, comprehensive, full and
objective investigation of the case to inevitably hold the guilty accountable.
The
state must have proper mechanisms to prevent such incidents and at the same
time should constantly improve them.
The
Human Rights Defender expresses her condolences to the families and relatives
of the deceased.
