On July 17, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of
Armenia, Ms. Anahit Manasyan participated in a discussion organized in Dilijan
on the topic of "The Problems of the Right to Education of the Law of
National Minorities".
The event was organized by the Standing Committee on Human
Rights Protection and Public Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of
Armenia with the support of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP)
Armenia Office.
During the discussion, special attention was paid to the
peculiarities of the organization of the education of the representatives of
the national minorities of Armenia, as well as the problems related to ensuring
the right to general and higher education.
In her speech, the Human Rights Defender emphasized that the
protection and promotion of the rights of national minorities requires a
systematic approach and joint work of various stakeholders.
"The right of education is key to preserving the identity
of national minorities and full participation in public life. It is a priority
for us that this right will be ensured not only in the context of legal acts,
but also in practice. In this context, the issue of preparing specialists
teaching the languages of national minorities is also important, which now
remains a challenge. We need to solve these problems through joint efforts,
"said Ms. Anahit Manasyan.
The opening speech was delivered by Mr. Rustam Bakoyan, Acting
Chairman of the Standing Committee on Human Rights Protection and Public
Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia. Representatives of
state bodies, national minorities and experts took part.
During the discussion, reference was made to the legal acts
regulating the sector and their drafts, the difficulties in training
professional staff, as well as the shortage of educational literature and
professional materials intended for national minorities.
The participants of the event also highlighted the promotion of
the inclusion of the educational environment, based on the principles of
diversity and equal opportunities.
