On
March 21, the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Ms. Anahit
Manasyan received the Rector of the French University in Armenia Ms. Salva
Nakuzi, Dean of the Faculty of Law Ms. Karin Hovsepyan, and Assistant to the
Legal Clinic Program Ms. Anahit-Anna Mkrtchyan.
During
the meeting, the recently launched Legal Clinic program at the French
University was discussed, which aims to contribute to the development of
students' professional skills, as well as provide legal assistance to
vulnerable groups.
In
this context, the possibility of cooperation with the Human Rights Defender’s
Office was also discussed in order to increase the effectiveness of the
program.
Ms.
Anahit Manasyan highly valued the implementation of such initiatives,
emphasizing their essential importance in terms of raising legal awareness and
solving existing problems in the field of human rights protection. The Defender
expressed her readiness to support the implementation of the program within the
framework of her mandate, including offering students internship opportunities
at the Human Rights Defender’s Office and involving in the process of
developing ad hoc reports and other research projects.
The
Defender also presented the Human Rights Winter School program, which was
launched for the first time in 2024 and included students from various
universities across Armenia, including the regions.
During
the meeting, the parties also discussed opportunities for the involvement of
students from regions and addressed global challenges in human rights
protection. Reference was made to problems related to hate speech, the
elimination of discrimination, and the protection of children's rights and the
rights of persons with disabilities.
At
the end of the meeting, the parties reaffirmed their willingness to continue
joint initiatives aimed at developing legal education and human rights
protection.
