The
Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia Ms. Anahit Manasyan considers
the information received in recent days regarding cases of violence by police
officers in the city of Vanadzor to be concerning.
On
March 17, according to information recorded as a result of monitoring the mass
media and social media platforms, at the police station in Vanadzor, police
officers used physical force against an individual and insulted him.
The
day before, on March 16, a call was received by the Defender’s hotline
regarding the case of violence by a police officer in Vanadzor.
Upon
the instruction of Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan, a discussion was
initiated in the Office regarding the above-mentioned cases.
Clarifications
will be requested from the competent state authorities.
These
and similar cases are under the direct attention of the Human Rights Defender
of the Republic of Armenia, and necessary measures are being taken within the
Defender’s mandate.
