On
February 22, the Winter School activities continued at the Human Rights
Defender’s Office of the Republic of Armenia, where discussions were led by
representatives of the Defender’s Office.
The
law students, selected through a competitive process from various universities
across Armenia, were introduced to key human rights topics, including the
principle of elimination of discrimination, human rights protection in the
business sector, the impact of social networks on human rights, limitations of
human rights in the state of emergency, along with their international legal
principles and national context.
The
sessions were conducted by the Secretary General of the Human Rights Defender’s
Office of the Republic of Armenia, Ms. Nina Pirumyan, Assistant to the Defender
and Whistleblowing Officer, Ms. Milena Toneyan, Director of Center for
Research, Expertise, and Educational Center, Ms. Meri Mamikonyan, Head of
Department for Provision of Convention Mandates, Ms. Zhanna Hakobyan and Head
of the Business Rights Protection Division of the Department General for
Protection of Civil, Socio-Economic and Cultural Rights, Ms. Ellada Hakobyan.
In a
Q&A session, students had the opportunity to raise their questions and
discuss the presented topics.
It
should be noted that the Winter School program includes visits to various state
institutions, meetings with high-ranking officials, and discussions with
leading experts in the field.
The
Human Rights Winter School was organized at the initiative of the Human Rights
Defender of the Republic of Armenia in cooperation with United Nations
Development Programme (UNDP) Armenia Office.
The
Winter School is implemented within the framework of the program "Promotion
of Human Rights Protection and Strengthening of National Institutions"
funded by the EU and implemented by UNDP, UNICEF and UNFPA.
