On December 9, a training session on discrimination based
on HIV/AIDS status was conducted for the staff of the Human Rights Defender's
Office.
The session was opened with welcoming remarks by Tatev
Tovmasyan, a representative of the Human Rights Defender's Office, and Rosa
Babayan, the head of the United Nations Joint Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)
office in Armenia.
The following topics were discussed during the training:
Innovative approaches to HIV and ART (antiretroviral
therapy) treatment and prevention strategies,
Stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV,
Legal regulations, legislative and practical gaps in the field of HIV,
Issues identified within the framework of the Human
Rights Defender's 2023 annual report on the state of human rights and freedoms
in Armenia.
The training aimed to enhance the capacity of the staff
of the Human Rights Defender's office in addressing the rights of people living
with HIV/AIDS, ensuring the effective fight against discrimination toward individuals
living with HIV/AIDS.
The training session was organized at the initiative of
the Human Rights Defender's Office, in collaboration with the United Nations
Joint Program on HIV/AIDS office in Armenia and the "Real World, Real
People" NGO.
