The
children were introduced to the scope of the Human Rights Defender's powers,
the directions of the activities of the Defender’s Office and priorities, the
rights of the child defined by the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child,
and the mechanisms for their protection. They also discussed a number of issues
related to the protection of human rights, bullying, the fight against
discrimination, Constitutional law and restrictions on rights.
During
the meeting, which was held in a question-and-answer format, students had the
opportunity to raise issues of concern to them: manifestations of violence
against children, the right to education, the right to be heard and to freely
express their opinions, etc.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the
schoolchildren expressed their gratitude to the representatives of the
Defender’s Office for the interesting and comprehensive conversation.
Meetings
with students of educational institutions at the Human Rights Defender's Office
are ongoing.
