The
panel discussions continue as part of the high-level international conference
titled “Ombuds/National Human Rights Institutions in Turbulent Times:
Resilience and Challenges,” organized in celebration of the 20th anniversary of
the Human Rights Defender's Office.
During
the second discussion, focusing on "The Role of Ombuds and National Human
Rights Institutions in Supporting and Protecting Human Rights Defenders,” the
speakers included Debbie Kohner, Secretary-General of the European Network of
National Human Rights Institutions (ENNHRI); Nicoleta Biterova, Legal Officer
of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI); human
rights defender Siranush Sahakyan, and Beate Rudolf, Director of the German
Institute for Human Rights (participating online).
The
panel discussion was moderated by Nina Pirumyan, Secretary-General of the
Office of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia.
This
event is organised by the HRDO of Armenia in cooperation with the Council of
Europe, it is implemented by the CoE’s Division of Cooperation Programmes under
the project “Strengthening human rights safeguards for the displaced population
in Armenia” and by the European Union and Council of Europe joint programme
“Partnership for Good Governance”, co-funded by the European Union and the
Council of Europe, and implemented by the Council of Europe, in the framework
of the project “Promoting equality and non-discrimination in Armenia”.
