On
October 25, 2024, the Office of the Human Rights Defender received information
that people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, temporarily residing in
the sports school building in Masis in Ararat region, had been left without
electricity for several days.
On
the instructions of the Human Rights Defender, Anahit Manasyan, immediate
contact was established with the residents of the building and a competent
representative of the local government.
The
residents noted that, due to the cold weather, it had become impossible to live
in the building without electricity.
To
gain a more detailed understanding of the issue, a monitoring visit was carried
out on the same day at the Defender's instruction.
During
the visit, individual discussions were held with the displaced persons, and
their living conditions were assessed, along with issues concerning the
provision of medical assistance, food, and personal hygiene items.
Special
attention was paid to the rights of vulnerable groups, including children, the
elderly, and persons with disabilities.
With
the support of the Human Rights Defender, the issue was resolved, and electricity
supply was restored.
The
Defender emphasizes the importance of constructive cooperation with state and
local authorities to ensure prompt solutions to such issues.
The
protection of the rights of forcibly displaced individuals remains under the
daily attention of the Human Rights Defender.
