On
September 23-24, the Human Rights Defender's Office, in collaboration with the
Yerevan office of the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and
Humanitarian Law, holds a meeting-discussion aimed at enhancing the capacity of
the Defender's Office staff.
The
purpose of the meeting is to discuss the checklists created for monitoring
visits to penitentiary institutions, conducted by the National Prevention
Mechanism, along with the application toolkit and the details of their most
effective use.
Laura
Gasparyan, Coordinator of the National Preventive Mechanism Implementation-Head
of the Department for Prevention of Torture and Ill-Treatment, highly
appreciated the level of strong cooperation established between the two
institutions. In this context, she highlighted the importance of joint events
with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute, which are aimed at enhancing the
capacities of the Defender's staff and introducing more effective mechanisms
for protecting the rights of persons deprived of their liberty.

the discussion, the challenges encountered during monitoring visits, along with
potential effective solutions, will be highlighted.
The
capacity building of the Human Rights Defender's Office staff is an ongoing
