In
2024, the report of the European Network of National Human Rights Institutions
(ENNHRI) on the state of the rule of law in Europe was published.
The
report outlines the current trends and challenges of the rule of law, addresses
in detail both the state of guaranteeing the rule of law at the European level
and the current situation in the member states, presenting recommendations for
improving the practice aimed at guaranteeing the rule of law.
In
particular, the report addresses the ongoing challenges affecting the rule of
law and human rights environment faced by European network member institutions.
Referring
to the institution of the Human Rights Defender of RA, the report emphasizes
both the works carried out in the protection of the rights of women, persons
with disabilities, the fight against hate speech, intolerance, discrimination
and a number of other directions, as well as the challenges faced by the
Defender and the staff during the implementation of the activities mentioned
above.
Thus,
in the section entitled "NHRI enabling and safe environment" of the
Report, those member institutions of the European Network of National Human
Rights Institutions, which were subjected to attacks, expressions of hate
speech or intimidation, were singled out. Among the latter, together with the
institutions of Belgium, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Moldova and Slovakia, the HRD
institution of Armenia was also pointed out.
According
to the assessment given in the report, the campaign against the Human Rights
Defender in Armenia is orchestrated.
In
this context, let us recall that earlier the European Network of National Human
Rights Institutions expressed serious concern and published a statement
regarding the Human Rights Defender of RA, the management of the office and the
staff, who faced threats and attacks from politicians due to their activities
in the field of human rights protection.
The
European Network of National Human Rights Institutions reaffirmed its support
for the Human Rights Defender in its work to promote and protect all humanrights in Armenia.
