On
September 6, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan participated as a
keynote speaker in a three-day workshop covering human rights issues for
journalists in Lori Province.
The
event was attended by representatives of the mass media. The goal was to
provide them with an opportunity to deeply explore various sectors related to
human rights in Armenia, the existing challenges, and the ongoing reforms. The
moderator was Gayane Abrahamyan, President of the "Educational Center for
Equal Rights" NGO.
Anahit
Manasyan presented the powers and mandate of the Human Rights Defender, as well
as the work carried out and the specificities of reporting that are crucial for
raising the participants' awareness and sensitivity regarding various sectors.
"The
professional work of journalists plays a key role in any society. As the Human
Rights Defender, I highly value your work and our effective cooperation. At the
same time, it is equally important to conduct professional journalistic
activities in strict adherence to ethical standards, the principles of
'responsible journalism,' and in the context of preventing hate speech,"
stated the Defender.
Anahit
Manasyan emphasized that various issues related to the unhindered professional
activities of journalists were also included in the annual report of the Human
Rights Defender. The Defender is committed to addressing these issues.
The
workshop is part of the "Journalists for Human Rights" program,
within the framework of which an annual journalism award ceremony is held on
December 10, International Human Rights Day.
The
program is implemented by the "Educational Center for Equal Rights"
NGO and the "Article 3" Club, with the support of the Embassy of the
Kingdom of the Netherlands in Armenia.
