On
September 4, Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan met with Simon Babayan,
President of the Chamber of Advocates, and Harut Aklunts, Deputy Chairman of
the Chamber of Advocates. Representatives from both the Defender’s Office and
the Chamber of Advocates also attended the meeting.
Welcoming
the guests, Anahit Manasyan emphasized that the professional work of lawyers is
of key importance in ensuring the rule of law. In this context, the strong
collaboration formed between the Defender’s Office and the Chamber of Advocates
was highlighted as crucial for the effective protection of human rights.
The
Defender noted that the protected professional activity of lawyers is one of
the crucial prerequisites for an effective human rights protection system and
plays a key role in the justice system and in ensuring the rule of law.
During
the meeting, the obstacles to the professional activities of lawyers, legal
assistance for forcibly displaced persons, tax amendments affecting legal aid,
and several other issues were discussed.
Among
other topics, the interlocutors discussed potential directions for
collaboration and the implementation of joint initiatives.
In
his turn, Simon Babayan, President of the Chamber of Advocates, expressed
gratitude for the meeting and emphasized the importance of the Defender’s
institution in fulfilling its mission of human rights protection.
