On July 26, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan, within the framework of the program "Promotion of Women's Participation in Political and Civil Life", made a keynote speech in the discussion on the topic of "Leadership as a Way to Influence Change".
The purpose of the event was to improve the active participation of young women and girls in democratic processes. 25 women from the Shirak region participated.
In her speech, Anahit Manasyan turned to the idea of leadership, the challenges facing women leaders, issues existing in the field of protection and promotion of women's rights.
"The idea of Leadership is not to have titles and shape the image of a hero, this is a lifestyle based on making any positive change in people's lives. Today, women's leadership faces much more challenges than men's leadership. Women are very often targeted on grounds that men would never be. At the same time, if you have chosen a way to change your life and people's lives, never get discouraged by all these challenges. We, ourselves, must be the authors of the changes we want to see in our environment, and we have to determine the quality of our life as a result of our own choices and decisions. Moreover, as a result of my life experience, I have become convinced that instead of fighting against problems, we should just accept them as opportunities, and trying to make real changes in people's lives with the help of "small" things. One of the most important ideas I have learned in life is that you do not need to get hung up on results, you need to enjoy every moment of life. I am also sure that everyone should find such a formula for life that will make them truly harmonious", - said Anahit Manasyan.
Within this framework the Human Rights Defender specially emphasized that women's participation is important not only at the middle management level, but also at the decision-making level.
The discussion was organized by the "Women’s Rights House" non-governmental organization, by support of the "National Endowment for Democracy" (NED).
