On June 21, Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan
delivered the opening speech at the launch of the Armenian version of the HELP
course "Human Rights in the Armed Forces."
The Defender emphasized the effective cooperation
established with the Council of Europe, within which several important programs
in the field of human rights protection continue to be implemented.
"I attach great importance to the fact that this
course on this topic has been launched on the HELP remote platform. It is one
of the best platforms offering human rights courses, and it is encouraging that
this course on the mentioned topic is now available in Armenian. The guarantee
of human rights in the armed forces should be a daily principle and goal for
each of us, and we must all unite around this idea. I emphasize once again that
the armed forces should be built on rights-based principles. We must all focus
our efforts on this idea," said Anahit Manasyan.
In this context, the Defender emphasized the importance
of education, noting that many existing problems in the field are a result of
deficiencies within that system.
The opening remarks were also made by the Head of
Transversal Challenges and Multilateral Projects Task Force of the Directorate
General of Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe, Mr. Tigran
Karapetyan, Deputy Minister of Defense of RA, Arman Sargsyan, and Rector of the
Academy of Justice, Sergey Arakelyan.
Recent developments of the HELP course were presented,
including the development and localization of the Armenian version of the HELP
course "Human Rights in the Armed Forces," among other topics. During
the event, the first group of 25 trainees was registered, which includes five
representatives nominated by the Human Rights Defender.
The training is conducted within the framework of the
Council of Europe "Strengthening Human Rights in the Armed Forces of
Armenia" program.
