The Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan condemns the
clash between the participants of the protest action and the police on
Baghramyan Avenue, near the National Assembly building, and urges the
representatives of the competent authorities and the participants of the
assemblies to strictly comply with the requirements set by the legislation, as
well as refrain from any actions that distort the peaceful nature of the
gathering.
The use of disproportionate force by competent
authorities is inadmissible under any circumstances. The Defender reminds again
that the use of force is possible only if there are grounds defined by the law,
in compliance with the standards related to proportionality. At the same time,
the organizers and participants of the meeting, in turn, bear the
responsibility to ensure the peaceful course of the meeting and must show
restraint and observe the requirements set by the legislation.
In the created situation, the Defender emphasizes the
importance of unhindered professional activities of mass media representatives.
In connection with the incident with the journalist of the Mediahub.am news
site, necessary measures are taken within the mandate of the Defender.
