On May 21, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan
received Andrius Pulokas, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of
Lithuania to Armenia.
Anahit Manasyan presented to the ambassador the scope of
powers of the Human Rights Defender as a constitutional body, the priorities
and directions of activity, which include, inter allia, the rights of women,
children, national minorities, persons with disabilities, human rights in the
armed forces, criminal proceedings, the spheres of civil, socio-economic
rights, hate speech, atmosphere of intolerance, fight against discrimination.
In this context, the Defender presented the 2023 annual report of the Human
Rights Defender, where the problems and challenges in the field of human rights
protection in our country are analysed in detail along with the solution
proposals.
During the discussion, reference was made to the
protection of the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh,
the fact-finding activities and private interviews, as a result of which the
collected information was summarized in the ad hoc report of the Human Rights
Defender.
At the end of the meeting, Ambassador Andrius Pulokas
expressed his gratitude for the reception and emphasized the role of the
Defender institution in the implementation of the high mission of human rights
protection.
