On May 17, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan
received the delegation headed by Maxim Longangue, the head of the Council of
Europe office in Yerevan.
Anahit Manasyan congratulated Maxim Longange on assuming
the position of the head of the CoE office in RA and noted that he attaches
great importance to the effective cooperation with the Council of Europe. In
this context, the Defender emphasized the role of the programs of CoE in the
development of various spheres of human rights protection in Armenia.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the existing
challenges in the field of human rights protection, addressed the
manifestations of hate speech and intolerance, as well as recent cases of
alleged obstruction of the professional activities of journalists.
Anahit Manasyan emphasized that the mentioned issues are
among the primary directions of her work and are in the center of her immediate
attention. Reference was also made to the human rights Defender's 2023 annual
report, where each of them is analyzed in detail.
Maxim Longangue highly appreciated the effective
cooperation formed with the Human Rights Defender, which is aimed at having a
stronger human rights protection system in Armenia.
At the end of the meeting, the parties outlined
directions for expanding cooperation.
