On May 13, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan
received the programme director of the Eurasia Partnership Foundation, Isabella
Sargsyan, and the senior program manager, Nikolay Hovhannisyan.
Welcoming the guests, Anahit Manasyan presented the
activities of the Defender, emphasizing the protection of the rights of women,
children, national minorities, persons with disabilities, in the armed forces,
the protection of the rights of persons in criminal proceedings, the fight
against hate speech, the atmosphere of intolerance, discrimination and in a
number of other areas. In this context, the Defender emphasized that it is
impossible to have a proper system of human rights protection without public
solidarity, and from the viewpoint of public solidarity, the guarantee of legal
equality is of exceptional importance.
During the meeting, Anahit Manasyan also presented the
various problems related to human rights and the proposals for overcoming them,
which were mentioned in the 2023 annual report on the activities of the Human
Rights Defender, the state of protection of human rights and freedoms, and the
2023 annual report on the activities of the Human Rights Defender as a national
preventive mechanism.
The Defender highly appreciates the effective cooperation
with the civil society from the viewpoint of highlighting the existing problems
and outlining ways to solve them.
At the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their
willingness to continue and further develop cooperation in the field of human
rights protection.
