On
May 10, a working discussion was held in the administrative complex of the Ministry
of Defense of RA with the participation of representatives of the Human Rights
Defender, Ministry of Defense and the relevant units of the General Staff of
the Armed forces and the Ministry of Defense regarding the problems recorded in
the 2023 annual report of the Defender and the proposals for their solution.
In
the framework of the discussion, Andranik Yeghoyan, head of the Department for
the Protection of the Rights of Servicemen and their Family Members of the
Human Rights Defender's Office made a reference to the issues of military
registration and conscription, the actual process of military service and the
protection of the rights of individuals within the reserve service, the
problems in the field and possible ways to solve them. The two sides exchanged
ideas on the structures for the implementation of the proposals presented in
the annual report of the Defender, emphasizing in this context the joint work
with other competent bodies.
The
Human Rights Defender highly appreciates the commitment of the Ministry of
Defense to solve the existing human rights problems in the field, and
emphasizes the effective cooperation formed with a number of units of the
Ministry of Defense and the General Staff of the Armed forces, including the
Center for Human Rights and Integrity Building, the Department of Moral and
Psychological Support, the Legal Department, the Military Medical Department
and military commissariats, as a result of which grounds are created to solve
institutional problems as well.
