The
Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan is in Geneva to participate in the annual
meeting of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights Institutions (GANHRI).
The
alliance monitors the compliance of the activities of national human rights
institutions with the Paris principles, and also promotes the development and
protection of human rights.
On
May 6, the representatives of regional networks of National Human Rights
Institutes (APF, ENNHRI, NANHRI, RIDHCA) and the Bureau of the Global Alliance
of National Human Rights Institutes (GANHRI) met.
Participants
exchanged best practices and knowledge. The Defender has reached a number of
agreements on further cooperation with partners who are members of the European
network of national human rights institutions and has expressed readiness to
actively engage in new initiatives.
The
session of the General Assembly of the European Network of National Human
Rights Institutes (ENNHRI) was also held on May 6.
The
discussion agenda included a number of issues related to the protection of
human rights and the rule of law.
Anahit
Manasyan also participated in the discussion devoted to the topic of protection
of human rights defenders and heads and representatives of national human
rights institutions.
The
participants presented the challenges and obstacles they face in their
countries during the implementation of the activities.
Anahit
Manasyan spoke about the existence of separate sections related to the
unimpeded activity of human rights defenders, civil society representatives,
lawyers and journalists, description of the most frequently encountered cases
and protection structures within the framework of the Human Rights Defender's
annual report. Anahit Manasyan also presented the current challenges and
dangers hindering the normal functioning of the Human Rights Defender and the
protection of the Defender's institution.
The
plenary session of the Council of the Global Alliance of National Human Rights
Institutions (GANHRI) and a number of other meetings will take place in the
coming days.
