The Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan considers
the recent cases of obstruction of the professional activities of mass media
representatives, and their targeting and violence against them as a result of
their professional activities, to be very worrying.
In relation to the cases highlighted as a result of the
monitoring carried out by the Defender’s representatives, the contact was
established with media representatives to obtain additional information about
the incidents on the instructions of the Defender.
Clarifications were also requested from the competent
authorities, and the Human Rights Defender demanded a proper investigation of
the mentioned cases.
A number of existing problems in the field of proper
guaranteeing of the professional activities of journalists were also included
in the annual report of the Defender. The Defender will take the necessary
actions in the direction of solving them.
The Human Rights Defender emphasizes that the
professionally protected and effective work of journalists and media is of
great public importance.
Incidents of alleged violence targeting journalists while
carrying out their professional activities are inadmissible, and competent
authorities should make the subject of proper discussion any case that may
indicate obstruction of the journalist's professional activities.
