In the late evening of April 26, the head of the Tavush
Regional Department of the Human Rights Defender's Office visited the Ijevan
medical center on the instructions of the Defender, in order to visit the
people who were transferred there after the events that took place in Kiratz
and to get to know their health condition on the spot.
Private conversations were held with them. The persons in
the medical center presented details to the Defender's representative.
As a result of the visit, it was recorded that children
participating in the gathering were also taken to the medical center.
The Human Rights Defender considers the existence of
similar cases involving children as a concern, as well as the use of such a
format for children's participation in gatherings, which does not follow the
best interest of the child.
The Human Rights Defender attaches great importance to
the provision of children's rights, including freedom from any form of violence,
education and other rights, by state authorities, assembly organizers, assembly
participants, mass media and other actors during the exercise of children's
right to freely participate in assemblies, as also the need to consider the
best interest of the child as a primary consideration.
The Office of the Human Rights Defender, including the
Regional Department of Tavush, is working in an emergency mode.
The telephone numbers of the Defender's hotline are 116
and (096) 116100.
