On
April 9, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan received Mr. Miroslav Papa,
Director of Political Affairs and External Relations in the Council of Europe
Secretariat.
Maxime
Longangué, Head of the Council of Europe office in Yerevan, and Arman
Khachatryan, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Armenia in the Council
of Europe, also participated in the meeting.
Welcoming
the guests, Anahit Manasyan presented the directions of the Defender's
activity, highlighting the work carried out in the framework of the protection
of the rights of women, children, persons with disabilities, the fight against
hate speech, the atmosphere of intolerance, discrimination and in a number of
other fields.
The
Defender presented issues related to the protection of the rights of people
forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh, specifically referring to the
fact-finding activities carried out by her personally and by the staff. In this
context, Anahit Manasyan stated that she was actively involved in these works
from the very first day. She visited Goris, Kornidzor and Vaik with the staff,
working even at nights.
The
documented information was summarized in the ad hoc report of the Human Rights
Defender, which was presented by the Defender to the international
organizations and actors with a mandate to protect human rights, with the
confidential section proving its authenticity. Anahit Manasyan also referred to
the Armenophobic policy conducted by Azerbaijan, the protection of the rights
of the residents of the border settlements of the Republic of Armenia.
The
works carried out within the framework of the fight against hate speech,
atmosphere of intolerance, and discrimination were also discussed.
At
the end of the meeting, the parties expressed their willingness to continue and
further develop cooperation in the field of human rights protection.
