On March 25, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan
received the delegation headed by Anne-Laurence Petel, the Chairwoman of the
France-Armenia Friendship Group of the French National Assembly.
Oliver Decottignies, the Ambassador Extraordinary and
Plenipotentiary of France to Armenia, also participated in the meeting.
Welcoming the guests, the Defender highly appreciated the
cooperation with the French partners in the field of human rights protection,
also considering the democratic and rights-based values by which France is
guided.
Anahit Manasyan presented the directions of the
Defender's activities, in particular, emphasizing the protection of the rights
of women, children, persons with disabilities, the right to freedom of
assembly, civil and socio-economic rights, the protection of the rights of
persons in the armed forces, as well as the protection of rights of persons
within the framework of criminal proceedings, the fight against hate speech and
the atmosphere of intolerance, the works carried out within the framework of
the struggle of discrimination and in a
number of other fields.
During the meeting, inter alia the Defender referred to
the prevention of domestic and gender-based violence and the need to ratify the
Istanbul Convention, the importance of work on the protection and promotion of
women's rights.
Anahit Manasyan also presented issues related to the
protection of the rights of forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh,
and specifically referred to the fact-finding activities carried out by her
personally and by her staff.
Within the framework of the meeting, questions related to
the issues of human rights protection caused by the border security of the Republic
of Armenia were discussed.
Anne-Laurence Petel, expressed her gratitude for the
reception and effective discussion, highlighting the activity of the Human
Rights Defender’s Office in strengthening the proper system of human rights
protection.
