On February 27, the HRD
Anahit Manasyan received the delegation led by the Chairwoman of the Committee
on Legal Affairs of the FRG Bundestag Elisabeth Winkelmeier-Becker.
Welcoming the guests, the
Defender highly appreciated the bilateral cooperation in the field of human
rights protection. The importance of effective cooperation and jointly
implemented programs between the German Foundations "Konrad
Adenauer", International Legal Cooperation (IRZ) and HRD staff was
specially emphasized.
Anahit Manasyan presented
the directions of the Defender's activities, highlighting the work carried out
within the framework of the fight against hate speech, the atmosphere of
intolerance, discrimination and in a number of other areas.
Within the framework of
the meeting, issues related to the protection of the rights of forcibly
displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh were discussed, a special reference was
made to the fact-finding activities carried out by the Defender and her staff.
The documented
information was summarized in the ad hoc report of the Human Rights Defender,
which was presented by the Defender to the international organizations and
actors with a mandate to protect human rights, with the confidential section
proving its authenticity.
Anahit Manasyan also
referred to the policy of Armenophobia conducted by Azerbaijan. During the
meeting, among a number of issues related to the need to ratify the Istanbul
Convention, the implementation of detention, and the importance of police
reforms were discussed. Elisabeth Winkelmeier-Becker, in her turn, expressed
her gratitude to the Defender for the warm welcome and effective discussion,
highlighting the activities of the Defender's institution in strengthening the
proper system of human rights protection.
