On February 13, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan
received Resident Country Director of
National Democratic Institute(NDI) and
Senior Program Manager at National Democratic Institute for International
Affairs (NDI). Welcoming the guests, Anahit Manasyan presented the activities
of the Defender, emphasizing the protection of the rights of women, children,
national minorities, persons with disabilities, the right to freedom of
assembly, civil and socio-economic rights, protection of the rights of persons
in the armed forces, criminal proceedings, hate speech, the atmosphere of intolerance, the activities
carried out in the framework of the fight against discrimination and in a
number of other areas.
The Defender referred to the issues related to the
violations of human rights as a result of the actions of the Azerbaijani armed
forces in the direction of Nerkin Hand, Syunik region, on February 13.
In this context, Anahit Manasyan stated that the actions
of the armed forces of Azerbaijan represent a real threat from the viewpoint of
ensuring the right to life and security of people, education, as well as other
fundamental rights. The Defender also presented issues related to the
protection of the rights of forcibly displaced persons from Nagorno-Karabakh:
she specifically referred to the fact-finding activities carried out by her
personally and by the staff. The documented information was summarized in the
ad hoc report of the Human Rights Defender, which was presented by the Defender
to the international organizations and actors with a mandate to protect human
rights, with the confidential section proving its authenticity. The guests, in
turn, expressed gratitude to the Defender for the warm reception and productive
discussion.
