On February 7, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan
received the representative of the Swedish International Cooperation
Development Agency (SIDA), Senior program specialist Kristin Olson and the
acting head of the Yerevan office of the Council of Europe, Maxime Longangue.
The meeting was also attended by the program managers of
the Yerevan office of the Council of Europe and the representatives of the
Human Rights Defender's Office.
Welcoming the guests, Anahit Manasyan presented the
directions of the Defender's activities, highlighting the activities carried
out in the framework of the protection of the rights of women, children,
persons with disabilities, the fight against hate speech, the climate of
intolerance, discrimination and in a number of other fields.
Issues related to the protection and promotion of human
rights in the armed forces were discussed.
The Defender emphasized that the sector is under her
personal attention, visits are made to military institutions, regular meetings
are held with servicemen.
Anahit Manasyan also presented issues related to the
protection of the rights of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno- Karabakh.
The Defender specifically referred to the fact-finding activities carried out
by her personally and by the staff. The documented information was summarized
in the ad hoc report of the Human Rights Defender, which was the first to be
presented to international organizations and actors with a mandate to protect
human rights.
Within the framework of the meeting, reference was also
made to the protection of the rights of the residents of the border settlements
of the Republic of Armenia.
The guests, in turn, expressed their gratitude to the
Defender for the warm reception and effective discussion.
