On
January 29, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan received the delegation
led by the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong.
Welcoming
the guests, Anahit Manasyan presented the activities of the Human Rights
Defender, emphasizing the protection of the rights of women, children, national
minorities, persons with disabilities, the right to freedom of assembly, civil
and socio-economic rights, protection of the rights of persons in the armed
forces, in the frames of criminal proceedings, the activities carried out in
the framework of the fight against hate speech, the atmosphere of intolerance,
discrimination and in a number of other areas.
Issues
related to the protection of the rights of people forcibly displaced from
Nagorno Karabakh were discussed within the framework of the meeting. Anahit
Manasyan referred to the fact-finding activities conducted by her personally
and by the staff of the Defender’s office, during which information about
deaths, torture, disrespect of bodies, mutilation and other cases of
ill-treatment of civilians prohibited by international law as a result of
Azerbaijani aggression was received.
The
Defender also referred to the Armenophobic policy conducted by Azerbaijan.
Martin
Chungong expressed his gratitude to the Defender for the reception and the
productive discussion.
