On
January 12 the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan and the representative of
the Yazidi community of Armenia in the National Assembly of the Republic of
Armenia and Head of the Armenia-Iraq friendship group of the Parliament Rustam
Bakoyan, conducted a joint visit to the Yazidis who arrived from Iraq and seek
asylum in Armenia.
The
meeting was also attended by the representatives of the Human Rights Defender,
the partner organization of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees,
the charitable NGO "Mission Armenia" and the Asylum Issues and Legal
Support Department of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of
Internal Affairs.
Persons
seeking asylum in Armenia forwarded to the Defender their questions related to
their rights, issues related to housing, financial assistance from the state,
work and communication due to lack of knowledge of Armenian.
Anahit
Manasyan stated that within the mandate of the Human Rights Defender, she will
examine the issues raised by them and, if necessary, will take appropriate
steps.
The
Defender especially emphasized that the protection of the rights of asylum
seekers, refugees and representative.
