Immediately
after the publication of information about servicemen with fatal gunshot
wounds, the Human Rights Defender initiated a discussion procedure.
Letters
have already been sent to the Ministry of Defense and the General Prosecutor's
Office about one of the incidents. In the other case, necessary actions are
also taken.
The
Defender Anahit Manasyan emphasizes that such cases in the Armed Forces are
inadmissible and highly worrisome. It is extremely important for competent
state bodies to carry out an effective investigation in such cases, as well as
to take urgent measures aimed at preventing similar cases and to launch
complete and proper structures for this purpose.
This
circumstance was emphasized by the Human Rights Defender for many times,
discussions were organized with state bodies and representatives of civil
society, and proposals aimed at solving the problem were presented.
The
Defender will be consistent in addressing both the above-mentioned and existing
problems in the field, including the problems related to the discipline of the
armed forces, and the implementation of steps aimed at solving them.
