On December 11-14, the Human
Rights Defender's Office together with the Yerevan Office of the Raoul
Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law held a
meeting-discussion aimed at developing the capabilities of the Defender's
Office.
The purpose of the meeting
was to review the compliance of the checklist of monitoring visits to
penitentiary institutions conducted by the National Preventive Mechanism with
international human rights standards, develop a new questionnaire, discuss the
main directions of the structure and content of the manual for employees.
The Human Rights Defender,
Ms. Anahit Manasyan highly appreciated the level of deep cooperation
established between the two institutions. In this context, she emphasized the
importance of organizing joint events with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute aimed
at developing the capabilities of the Defender’s Office.
During the discussion, the
issues frequently faced during the monitoring visits were also raised, and the
toolkit for raising and identifying the issues was developed taking into
account the international best practice.
