On
December 11, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan met with schoolchildren
in the secondary school of Norapat community of Armavir region within the
framework of events dedicated to International Human Rights Day
The
event was initiated by the "Children of Armenia" charity foundation
(COAF). The students of Norapat, Aygevan and Sardarapat schools, the members of
the Metsamor student council, Arnak Avetisyan, the deputy governor of Armavir,
representatives of the education, culture and sports department of the
governor, representatives of the Ministry of Defense and COAF, the school
administration and teaching staff were also present.
In
her opening speech, Anahit Manasyan congratulated on the International Human
Rights Day and the 75th anniversary of the adoption of the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights.
The
Defender stated that the declaration was a landmark document that played a
special role in the formation and development of the world order built on
dignity, equality and rights-based values.
Addressing
the students, Anahit Manasyan emphasized the importance of such meetings and
noted that the campaign dedicated to Human Rights Day begins with that meeting.
The Human Rights Defender emphasized that such meetings provide an opportunity
to listen to children's questions and personally present the activities carried
out by the Human Rights Defender in the direction of protecting children's
rights.
During
the meeting, the children directly addressed their concerns to the Defender.
The questions related to the protection of the rights of children, including
schoolchildren who were forcibly displaced from Nagorno Karabakh, bullying,
manifestations of violence against children, the right to education, the right
to be heard and freely express an opinion, etc.
Students
were also presented with ways to apply to the Human Rights Defender.
The
Defender emphasized the importance of the individual role of each person from
the viewpoint of building a united and tolerant society. The Defender also
presented the importance of legal approaches in creating such a public
environment where people are of the highest value.
At
the end of the meeting, Anahit Manasyan expressed her gratitude for the
interesting discussion and expressed her willingness to host the children in
the Office of the Defender.
