On
November 30, the representatives of the Human Rights Defender’s Office made an
unannounced visit to the "Sevan" Penitentiary institution of the
Ministry of Justice. Private
interviews were held with persons deprived of liberty, including life convicts
on hunger strike.
The
convicts presented the circumstances that caused the hunger strike. In
addition, a number of issues related to their health conditions were discussed. The
representatives of the Defender had discussions also with the administration of
the penitentiary.
The
results of the unannounced visit will be summarized and appropriate letters
will be sent to the competent authorities regarding the recorded problems.
