On
November 16, the media reported that an unknown person tried to set fire to the
doors of the Jewish synagogue in Yerevan.
The
Human Rights Defender Ms. Anahit Manasyan expresses her concern about the
incident, and states that any encroachment on the religious structure is
unacceptable and reprehensible.
The
Defender emphasizes that in the framework of the investigation of the case by
the competent authorities, the fact whether the act was committed with the
motive of racial, national, ethnic or religious hatred, intolerance or enmity
should be properly assessed.
The
Defender particularly emphasizes that the protection of the rights of persons
belonging to national minorities and their security must be guaranteed in our
country.
