On
November 17, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan, OSCE Parliamentary
Assembly President Pia Kauma and OSCE PA Secretary General Roberto Montella
made a joint visit to the temporary shelter of forcibly displaced persons from
Nagorno Karabakh, located in the enlarged community of Abovyan, Kotayk region.
A
comprehensive tour of the shelter was conducted with the accompaniment of
regional and community management representatives, private conversations were
held with forcibly displaced persons, their conditions of detention, needs
assessment, medical care and service, food, and personal hygiene items were
examined. Special attention was paid to the state of ensuring the rights of
vulnerable groups, including children, the elderly, and persons with
disabilities.
The
forcibly displaced persons presented to the Defender, the President of the OSCE
PA and the Secretary General the deprivations they suffered during the
aggression against Nagorno Karabakh by the armed forces of Azerbaijan, as well
as the blockade of the Lachin Corridor, the widespread violations of rights,
the real threats to life and security, as well as the problems caused by forced
displacement.
Issues
of ensuring the rights of forcibly displaced people from Nagorno Karabakh are
under the special attention of the Human Rights Defender. Visits are ongoing.
