In connection with the explosion and subsequent fire at
the Yerevan State University, a discussion procedure was initiated on the
instruction of the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan. To obtain
clarifications, letters will be sent to the competent state bodies․
The Defender emphasizes that the accident should be the
subject of a detailed investigation not only to identify those responsible and
bring them to justice, but also to prevent such cases in the future.
The Defender further emphasizes that the occurrence on
November 17 is particularly regrettable as it coincides with International
Students' Day. This dual misfortune is underscored by the fact that individuals
within the academic community should
have spent the day in the spirit of the holiday.
The Human Rights Defender extends condolences to the
families of the deceased and wishes a quick recovery to those injured in the
accident.
